Planting trees and sprouting leaders! |

Let’s roll up our sleeves, dig a hole, get dirty, and plant a tree together to help fulfill a global initiative!
The 2009-2010 New York Regional goal for “Operation Tree Planting” is to have our chapters contribute at least 300 trees that will be pledged in conjunction with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)-Billion Tree Campaign.
Trees can be provided by the National Arbor Day Foundation for a membership fee. Each individual membership costs $10 and the Foundation will in turn provide 10 trees. The member will either plant these trees or the member can opt to have the Foundation plant the trees in a National Forest area. Trees are also available through the New York Department of Conversation.
The Region will match the first 10 chapters that obtain their memberships with an additional membership. The Region will have 15 free memberships available to chapters that have less than a two-star level in 2009.
We would like to encourage our inactive chapters to take this step in becoming involved with Operation Green through fellowship, scholarship, service, and leadership. This goal works directly with the regional goal to get our more active chapters can take an interest in helping the inactive or less active chapters reach a level through the Five-Star Program. The NY Regional Officer Team would like to extend our time by being committed to each an every chapter that would like to be involved with Operation Tree Planting!! Becoming involved with UNEP will help the international community reach the UN’s goal of 7 billion trees planted worldwide. In working in conjunction with UNEP, the NY Region will extend our hand to sister up with our Phi Theta Kappa International chapters through fellowship, service, scholarship, and leadership as we all attempt to reach our goals and pledges in a worldwide “Operation Green.” project. The NY Region would like the international chapters to feel embraced and feel a part of our great organization.
